What To Know
Manipulation is a specialty area of Manual Therapy that deserves its own definition. For many years, it was the “go-to” technique for private practice physiotherapy. Today it is still a very important treatment technique used to restore mobility to restricted joints, relax surrounding musculature and provide a general feeling of “release” or well-being in the area. It is used in conjunction with the many other treatment techniques we use in practice.
Manipulation is a relatively short, quick mobilization or “thrust” of a joint that often results in a “popping” or “cracking” sound. A Manipulative Physiotherapist has received advanced, specialized training and is eligible to be a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT).
